United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 2002-present: UNHCR contracted InterWorks to develop and conduct various security-related trainings. These include security for the individual field-worker, an advanced security workshop, and a management-level workshop designed for heads of offices and others directly responsible for staff safety.
Our approach in these workshops is centered on the individual humanitarian field worker or manager, and the practical knowledge and skills required to improve personal safety and security when working in insecure environments. These security workshops include field security exercises and scenario role plays, such as simulated road accidents, crowd/mob situations, ambush of convoys, and hostage-taking situations. InterWorks staff is involved in UNHCR’s “Security Management Learning Programme” (SMLP), the “Advanced Security Workshop” designed for UN, NGO, and Host Government counterparts, and the “Security Risk Management” workshop designed for mixed groups of UN and NGO office managers.
