The UNHCR Regional Centre for Emergency Preparedness – eCentre held the third Basics of International Humanitarian Response (BIHR) Online workshop from 17 – 20 January and also 24-27 January 2022 based on the long-running BIHR face-to-face workshop. The workshop was conducted for 31 participants mostly dealing with the Afghanistan situation. Participants were mainly from Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The BIHR Online workshop was designed to achieve the following stated objectives:
- Increase overall emergency response capacity in the region by improving understanding of humanitarian emergencies and increasing participants’ ability and confidence to respond to them.
- Improve the quality of protection and assistance received by persons in need, by increasing awareness of standards of international humanitarian assistance.
- Facilitate more concerted responses by promoting an understanding of the importance of coordination among partners.
- Meet other humanitarian professionals, network and exchange ideas.
