| Disaster
management includes not only the operational activities
implemented in all of the various stages of a disaster
– at all levels – but also the policies
and administrative decisions taken in support of these
activities.
Risk is the relative degree of probability that a hazardous
event will occur. Risk reduction, then, is the application
of appropriate techniques and management principles
to reduce either the likelihood of an occurrence or
its consequences, or both.
InterWorks has provided consulting services to governments,
UN organizations and NGOs to assist them in the design
and implementation of disaster management and risk reduction
activities.
