Practical Mixed Refugee and Natural Emergency Field Exercise

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) | May 2023

InterWorks designed and facilitated a three-day emergency response field simulation exercise in Dushanbe, and Balkhi, Tajikistan from 15-17 May 2023. The event was supported by the UNHCR eCentre and the UNHCR Tajikistan Office.

The event focused attention on the potential for disaster emergencies in Tajikistan and on steps to better test the current interagency coordination systems through a practical field exercise. It featured a field based, live-action simulation of a displaced persons emergency (including disaster displaced Tajik nationals and refugees) held at the Balkhi temporary accommodation centre. After the simulation, a debriefing was held with discussions on how to better prepare for such emergencies, based on the results of the field simulation.

Topics included: contingency planning, protection, coordination, information management, cash-based initiatives, and humanitarian advocacy.

Overall, the training was very interesting. I have learned a lot of useful things. I think it was an important training and therefore, I would like to thank all level organizers of this training.
