CARE International 2001-2006
InterWorks developed the applied training curriculum based on CARE’s Rapid Environmental Impact Assessment in Disasters (REA) Guidelines and conducted more than 12 workshops based on the program. The REA process was developed to provide assistance providers and disaster survivors with a way to identify critical environmental issues during disaster relief and short term recovery operations.
Each of the highly interactive REA workshops was based on a two and half day simulation of a disaster scenario. After a half-day introduction to the concept and principles of the REA methodology, participants conduct a Rapid Environmental Impact Assessment in the specific disaster context provided by the location and the simulation scenario. InterWorks based the REA Workshop materials on a table-top simulation which could also be modified to include a field-based exercise on the third day.
