Security Management Learning Programme (SMLP) Workshop

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) | Nov 2019

InterWorks and the UNHCR Global Learning Centre (GLC) and Field Security Service (FSS) held a Security Management Learning Programme (SMLP) workshop in Bangkok, Thailand from 4-8 November 2019. The SMLP has been an on-going programme of UNHCR since 2006 and the fourth workshop conducted based on revised content and methodologies to reflect a) the revised UNSMS Security Risk Management (SRM) Policy adopted in late 2015 and b) an increased focus on the management of security.

The main workshop sessions addressed the different steps in the SRM process, programme criticality, security planning and security budgeting to help participants gain an understanding of the underlying concepts with the aim of making more informed security risk management decisions. The workshop also included an emphasis on Duty of Care and its integration within all aspects of security management. This is consistent with UNHCR’s efforts with regard to duty of care for personnel operating in high risk environments.

Thank you for the amount of effort and expertise that goes into this and it has been most valuable. Very grateful for this opportunity.
