Working Group on Contingency Planning in Kyrgyzstan

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) | Apr 2013

InterWorks designed and facilitated a working group event jointly convened by UNHCR and the Kyrgyz Ministry for Emergency Situations in Lake Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan from 22 to 26 April 2013.

This event was the first interagency contingency working group process focusing on refugee influx scenarios potentially affecting Kyrgyzstan. Planners from several governmental ministries and agencies in Kyrgyzstan met with UNHCR, WFP, OCHA, and UNICEF colleagues to draft a contingency plan for scenarios of concern. The working group produced a working draft of a contingency plan which is now the basis for ongoing planning for preparedness for a major refugee influx and generally greater partnership in both preparedness and response.

Thank you for this training. It was interesting and useful for me to experience and see that this is an intensive and complex issue.
